Kalevi Aho – composer. Kalevi Aho was born in 1949. He commenced violin studies at the age of ten, and his first compositions date from this time. Aho studied the violin and composition at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and continued his studies in Berlin as a pupil of Boris Blacher at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst.
Kalevi Aho is one of Finland’s most well-known composers. Much of Aho’s symphonic output is the result of years of close collaboration with Sinfonia Lahti.

Kalevi Aho (born 9 March 1949 in Forssa, Finland) is a Finnish composer. He studied composition at the Sibelius Academy under Einojuhani Rautavaara, receiving a diploma in 1971. He continued his studies for a year in Berlin with Boris Blacher. His teaching positions include music theory at the University of Helsinki from 1974 to 1988, and a professorship at the Sibelius Academy from 1988 to 1993. Few composers can have managed to establish a place for themselves in Finnish music as quickly as did Kalevi Aho (b. 1949) during the early 1970s.
